iPad use in classrooms- October 1, 2010

Forth graders at Summit View Elementary School have are using twenty-seven iPads in class.  They were donated by Duke Energy for the STEM(science, technology, engineering, and math) program.  They want to see if the use of technology would help children comprehend science.  Before the iPads arrived the students were tested in science to see how they were doing.  Later in the spring they will be tested again to see if they were doing any better.  They also took a survey about there attitudes toward science, which they will repeat in the spring.  For the time being they will only be used for in class work.  They have created e-mail accounts so they can send there work to there teacher to be graded.  This will also help them go paper less.  Many students who are using them say that they help them with many more things than just science.

Critical Thinking Question: Do you think that using iPads will help improve the comprehension of science?
