Current Event 1

Hurricane Earl - Sept 1, 2010

Hurrican Earl is supposed to hit the North Carolina area on Thursday evening or Friday morning.  By the time it does hit it will have been weakened to a caragory 2 hurricane but, it will have widened so it will cover more land.  Mertrologists say that it is a serious storm and people should be preparing by getting supplies and be ready to evacuate at a moments notice.  Many locals are playing it by ear and not taking the precautions that the meterologists are suggesting.  Most tourists have left the area just in case.  They say that they would rather just get home rather than stay and risk it.  Many locals are worried that the hurricane will ruin tourist's Labor Day plans and hurt the economy.  They say that Labor Day is vital for everyone because it is the last celebration of the summer.  The waves are excepted to be very high on Friday and people that teach surfing lessons are thinking of canceling the lessons for everyone's saftey.  Though they say the waves will be the best on Friday and they will give you a great adrenilne rush.  Over all there are many mixed opinons about what to do when the hurricane does hit.  What will happen only time will tell.

Critical Thinking Question:  What do you think caused the hurricane and what damage do you think it will do?  Why?
