White roofs help with global warming- September 19, 2010
Many people across the country are trying this. They say that painting your roof white will help fight against global warming. Not only this but can reduce the cost of air conditioning in the summer. The white reflects the sunlight, letting in less warmth from the sun. This will make the air conditioner to be used less. It will reduce that cost but is said to do nothing anything because the sun is not as intense in the winter. After a test in New York a area of the roof was painted white and another part wasn't. The part that was, was 45 degrees cooler than the part that wasn't painted.
Critical Thinking Question: Do you think that painting the roof white will help reduce global warming?
I do not think painting your roof will reduce global warming because painting your roof white just makes your roof cooler. It may slightly decrease the indoor temperature but, using the air conditioning a little more probably won't slow global warming any significant amount.

Sounds like an interesting topic to look into but at this point I have to say that I don't think painting the roof is going to change much of anything. However maybe over the long term this will change. Good job and great current event!
ReplyDeleteI personally think that this could possibly work. I find it beleivable that painting the roof white would probably make the heat go down in your house but I'm not so sure about the global warming, I dont see how that would be possible. Good job Katelyn!
ReplyDeleteThinking logically that would decrease the amount of energy needed in the summer because white objects reflect almost all light and absorb very little and because the sun hits aat a lower angle in the summer even though the house wouldn't be heated by the sun then the difference would be to little t notice.
ReplyDeletePainting your roof white will definatley NOT help with global warming (Mostly because there is no such thing as global warming, it was all a scam/story for them fifteen minutes of fame and the money) It could help keep your house cooler in the summer, but you would be freezing in the winter.
